Tree Trimming & Pruning

Tree Trimming & Pruning in Baton Rouge and Beyond

Louisiana trees grow fast. Live oaks spread wide, water oaks shoot up, and in a few seasons a tree that framed your house can be scraping the roof and shading out the lawn. Trimming takes it back under control without losing the tree.

Why trim

Good trimming solves a specific problem. We start by asking what you want fixed — and then cut only what needs to go.

  • Clearance: limbs over the roof, against siding, or hanging low over the driveway, sidewalk, or street
  • Deadwood: dead or broken branches that will eventually fall on their own
  • Light and air: thinning a dense crown so grass grows and wind can pass through
  • Appearance: shaping a tree that has grown lopsided or crowded
  • Structure: removing crossing or rubbing limbs before they become a problem

Trimming that respects the tree

Topping a tree — cutting the main stems back to stubs — looks like a fast fix but leaves a weaker, uglier tree that regrows dense, poorly attached shoots. We do not recommend it. Instead, branches are cut back to a natural junction so the tree can seal the wound and keep its shape.

Big live oaks deserve extra care. Their long, low limbs are part of what makes them beautiful, so we trim for clearance and safety while keeping the character of the tree.

Getting ahead of storm season

A lot of storm damage in Louisiana starts with branches that were already dead, cracked, or overextended. Trimming those limbs before hurricane season reduces the load a tree has to carry in high wind and takes away some of the pieces most likely to break off and hit your house or car.

Cleanup is part of the job

Trimmed branches are chipped or hauled away and the yard is raked when we finish. Your estimate will list exactly which trees and limbs are included.

Frequently asked questions

When is the best time to trim trees in Louisiana?

Many trees can be trimmed any time of year, and late winter is a good time for general pruning because leaves are down and growth has not started. Dead or hazardous limbs should be dealt with whenever you notice them, especially before storm season.

Will trimming hurt my tree?

Proper cuts made at the right place heal well. Removing too much at once, or topping a tree, causes stress — which is why we trim to solve a specific problem instead of cutting everything back.

Can you trim branches near power lines?

Lines running from the pole to the street are typically handled by the electric utility. Contact your utility first for anything touching those lines. For service drops and branches near — but not on — lines at your house, describe the situation in your estimate request and we will tell you what we can safely do.
